Meet the Assistant Pastor
Derek had the opportunity of being raised in a christian home where he was taught the gospel at an early age. At the age of 5 he had understood the need of placing his trust in Jesus Christ for salvation. On that day he called upon Jesus to come into his heart and save him. He was later baptized at the age of 12 as an act of obedience and a public testimony of what Jesus had done for him when he died for his sins and was raised from the dead.
When Derek was a young teenager, he always struggled with what the Lord wanted him to do with his life. He wasn’t sure if the Lord wanted him to work in healthcare or maybe follow his father’s footsteps and become a police officer. It wasn’t until his freshman year of Bible college that the Lord seemed to be directing Derek into full time ministry, particularly, in the local church in pastoral ministry. The Lord sealed this in his heart by leading him to II Corinthians 12:15 – ‘And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.’ The Lord used this to settle in his heart – “Derek, I want you to spend your time and energy on God’s people. They need to be loved and taught my Word. They might not love you back, but I have called you to love them and serve them in full time ministry.”
Derek was led to Hope Baptist Church in 2014. He has been serving there faithfully in the pulpit ministry, the music ministry, with the senior saints, and the youth ministry.
Derek Heilman was voted in as the assistant pastor of Hope Baptist Church in February 2022.
